A month after Andy and Jim had last performed together at Leicester's Quad Studios, the country went into Covid-19 lockdown. Unable to meet to play together, they contented themselves with contributing to the online United Isolation Ensemble project which Jim was facilitating:

Jim was so taken with much of Andy's submitted material that he was inspired to conceive a "remote" UV Spectra album out of it, a fully studio based creation. 'Asynchronous', titled after the fact that this time round the duo were not working together in real time, is the result.

"After two UV Spectra albums made from live session material, this third one was created as a bi-product of material submitted to the United Isolation Ensemble project during the lockdown of 2020-21. As such, you'd rarely guess that this is largely material created for another project, as Jim (now proving to be quite the adept mixmaster) has reassembled those recordings in such a manner as to create entirely new musical frameworks. The results are even more of the Eno ambient school, in fact the second track Coruscation has a distinct Jon Hassell feel about it (just the underlay, as there are no winds here). It's all very tranquil stuff, a mixture of sweetly melodic and dissonant, with enough weirdness and off-kilter elements to keep it all interesting. In fact, the results are much deeper and multi-layered than their previous two albums." ~ Alan Freeman, Audion #63
